Peruvian nurse cares for 175 sick cats

At her job, Maria Torero cares for sick human beings. At home, she lavishes love on slowly dying cats — 175 of them at last count.

The 45-year-old nurse has turned her two-story, eight-room apartment into a hospice for cats with feline leukemia, scattering it with scores of feeding dishes and at least two dozen boxes litter boxes.

Some have suggested she shelter healthy cats instead. “That’s not my role,” she told The Associated Press. “I’m a nurse. My duty is to the cats that nobody cares about.” She said that “people don’t adopt adult cats, especially if they are terminally ill.”

shoutout to people working weekends and overnights and overtime, people working in hospitality and retail and food service, who are sacrificing time with their loved ones, so fuckers with weekday desk jobs get to live comfortably with the amenities we provide while simultaneously shitting all over us for not getting “real jobs”

How does tasteless dribble like this get spread around this site so much? Has anyone stopped to think how these “five days a week” working aholes maybe had to work a shitty hospitality service or retail job before they were able to get their 5 day a week job so they can finally enjoy their weekends off with their families and loved ones? Fuck this site and their entitled thinking hypocrites. You think that because i work a 5 day M-F job that I’m some asshat who doesn’t appreciate lower wage jobs. Well fuck you because up until a year ago i had either worked in food or retail since i was legally able to work (so yes as soon as i turned 15 i got a part time minimum wage job). And i busted my ass and never hated people that had m-f jobs that paid more because chances are they had to work really hard to get there. Thats how life works, you have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Not just expect it to be handed to you.

As a Tibetan raised in a Buddhist family, I literally so sick of shit like this. White people love to appropriate eastern cultures and religion, Buddhism has literally been the “chill, laid back”, go to faith/philosophy for a lot of people white people who don’t think their own family faith is chill enough. It’s like a phase y’all go through or something like, “don’t wanna think or really get to know any one religion? just fall back to these super ambiguous buddha quotes that make you feel like you can do whatever!”.
I am sick of seeing Buddhism made into caricatures and summarized into shitty quotes like this. Stop disrespecting Buddhism, stop generalizing it as something it’s not. It’s intricate, it asks you to think critically, it asks for A LOT OF THINGS, it’s not simply being “chill”. I am used to seeing white people not really give a shit about their ancestral faith, the amount of memes and cartoons I see disrespecting Jesus, Christianity, etc. (as jokes or whatever), it’s honestly appalling but idc that’s your guys’s own deal if you are comfortable with that. But not with mine, Buddhism is not your fallback conduct code when you see other faiths as too restrictive or requiring actual strict rules and taboos (that you cannot abide by).
Just because Buddhists are not the most violent or headline making group of folks doesn’t mean you can constantly use the faith to produce caricatures in the media and other outlets. It’s not your trendy phase, it’s a very big holy part of many people’s lives. Culturally, I (maybe it’s just me but) find it offensive and I’m always shocked at the lack of social etiquette people have when it comes to the religion and philosophy that my people have followed for centuries. Have some respect and appreciate it for it’s actuality without stomping all over it for the sake of your oversimplification, comfort, and convenience. And don’t get me started on tattoos.

Oh my god. This is only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to how westerners treat asian cultures.

Things you won’t see in other canon. That time Makoto (not even transformed) punched Tuxedo Mask in the face.

And then she proceeds to call him out for the asshat he is. Ahhhh I love it.

people that keep saying they look fat just so others tell them they don’t

image

I’m actually really tired of people telling me I’m not fat when I say “wow i’m fat”. Yes, I am fat. No, its not because I have self-esteem issues and can’t see myself like i am. I am speaking truthfully. I am legitimately over weight, need to get in shape for health issues, and am already seeing signs of health issues caused by the excess weight.

So yes I am fat. Yes I need to lose weight. Please don’t tell me I’m not fat. I can see what I look like in the mirror. I know where I need to be to be healthy. Let me just complain because its not easy to get rid of it now.

I was tagged by highsummoneryunie

The rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag 10 friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.

1. Ella Enchanted - This was one of my earliest young adult fantasy novels. It was witty, charming, and had a kick ass lead female. The movie (which was trying to ride on the Shrek train) didn’t really do it justice, but the book was great.  I recommend it to anyone young and old.

2. His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass) - Another fantastic fantasy series. Just…ugh. I read it a long time ago so much of the series has been forgotten, but the last book…I’m overdue for a reread of this series. It was criticized for its negative portrayal of Christianity but I never really took it that way. Just a story of questioning authority and coming of age and fighting for your own destiny, not that which is forced upon you. Also, the last book truly stuck with me…

3. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - How can I not mention this one? LOTR is the reason I started talking to my fiance in the first place. :)

4. The Hobbit - I can read this book so many times its not even funny. One of my absolute favorite fantasy stories.

5. Howl’s Moving Castle - Thanks to Studio Ghibli’s animated feature film based on this novel, I discovered this book and the author Diana Wynn Jones. She is an amazing talent, witty, satirical, and full of charm. Its young adult but should be enjoyed by ALL. Diana Wynn Jones was an amazing storyteller and the world is a darker place without her. :(

6. Old Yeller - Not gunna lie. This book had me bawling to my mom as a kid. What a great story to show what it means to befriend an animal and the type of companionship and bonds that form.

7. Fahrenheit 451- What a powerful book.

8. Wizard’s First Rule -  The first in Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series. An absolutely amazing read…the things that happen in this book blow away any so many other popular fantasy series.  Unfortunately I have yet to read the rest of the series. :/

9. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon -  Yes, this may be a comic book series, but do I really need to even explain myself?

10. Ender’s Game - One of my earliest science fiction novels. I had to read it for school and boy am I glad I did. It really helped me dive into the world of science fiction beyond Star Wars.

Hey folks!
So I wasn’t even aware until I did some digging, but apparently my Bravest Warriors cover has been revealed (and possibly printed and published?).  I think it’s issue #23 and according to what I’m seeing, it came out last month.  So here’s that!
Enjoy!

Note:  Oh hey, it appears tumblr is being super weird and not posting high-res images today, so we’ll see if this works.  If not, I’ll just replace the image later.

Fantastic!

When you’ve been abused by a parent like that dealing with anything afterwords is terrifying.

I can only imagine the emotions Zuko was feeling when he apologised to Iroh there.

^This is one of the reasons that I think going in to apologize to Iroh is one of the bravest things that Zuko’s ever done, because of how much it must have terrified him to do so (Iroh would never hurt Zuko like that, but that fear had to have been at the top of Zuko’s mind at this moment)

And why I love Iroh so, so much for being who he is.

My heart hurts. D:
